Biography
Mezzo-soprano, Virginia Frith, began singing in Australia and quickly became a well-known figure on Sydney’s stages. Her acting talent and, particularly, her comic timing landed her earlier roles such as Ruth (Pirates of Penzance) and Ida (Die Fledermaus). As soloist for Sydney’s Inner West Chamber Choir her repertoire included Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Bach cantatas.
After re-locating to London Virginia has since completed the reputable University of London’s Birkbeck Diploma in Opera Performance. Roles and scenes she has sung are Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), Orfeo (Orfeo and Euridice), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel), 3rd Lady (The Magic Flute) and Cecilio (Lucio Silla).
Active in the London scene for young singers, Virginia performed in an exciting and ground-breaking opera/ cabaret production for the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has also performed with London’s Philharmonia Chorus. She regularly organises and sings in charity recitals.
Training at the Sydney annex of David Mamet’s New York Atlantic Theatre School and with the Sydney Dance Company complements her singing career.
