Biography

Mezzo-soprano, Virginia Frith, is a graduate of two of London's reputable opera colleges, Morley Opera School and London University's Birkbeck College where she studied for a Diploma in Opera Performance.  For performances at college Virginia has relished the chance to sing roles such as Hansel and Gertrud (Hansel and Gretel), 3rd Lady (The Magic Flute), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), Cecilio (Lucio Silla), Mignon (Mignon) and the fiendishly difficult Composer from Strauss’s, Ariadne auf Naxos. In 2010 she sang the role of Dido, in Purcell’s, Dido and Aeneas, with the New London Opera Players, directed by Jonny Ramster, under the musical direction of Mary Hill. In 2009 she performed in an exciting opera/ cabaret crossover production at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival.

Originally hailing from Australia, Virginia has sung the roles of Ruth in Pirates of Penzance and Ida in Die Fledermaus for various small opera companies in Sydney. She was an oratorio soloist for the Inner West Chamber Choir, Sydney, and in London has performed as soloist with Queens Park Singers.

Virginia regularly co-produces and sings in recitals throughout London.

With a keen interest in drama and movement, Virginia has also trained at the Sydney annex of David Mamet’s New York Atlantic Theatre School and with the Sydney Dance Company.
